Conclusion:
Tracheostomy in the SARS-CoV-2 infected patient represents a unique situation, with a unique set of risks and implications. When compared to traditional tracheostomy procedures in the setting of prolonged ventilation, SARS-CoV-2 represents a unique entity in terms of timing, indications, and infection control considerations which must be kept in mind when performing these procedures and managing patient’s post-tracheostomy.
