Case presentation
We report a 30-year-old male patient with a 10-year history of subungual
warts on his left thumb. His subungual warts had been treated by liquid
nitrogen cryotherapy more than 30 times. He told us that despite the
effectiveness of this treatment, warts recurred multiple times over a
period of time.We successfully treated his subungual warts with
paiteling(PAI, Beijing Paite Biotechnology Limited Company, China). The
specific therapeutic steps were as follows. Firstly, we removed the
diseased nail and scraped off the wart with a sterile surgical blade
until there were no residues; Then, we put cotton pads soaked in PAI
solution on lesions for 2 ~ 4h every day. We repeated
the above treatment steps for 5 days and stopped for 2 days. Finally, we
put cotton pads soaked in 2% PAI solution on lesions for 15min every
day when the skin lines grew. We repeated the last step for 2 weeks.
Although, there were adverse events of mild swelling and pain
during treatment, no lesions recurred during the 6-month follow-up
(Figure 1).
